XpressMusic 5800 launches in Jordan

I just came back from a 5 hour gadget hunting tour of Amman. One of the places I visited was the Nokia Store in City Mall. The whole store is branded in the 5800 style. The sales people actually have demo devices on them: one in blue and one in red.

You can book your XpressMusic 5800 now. You have to pay 55 JDs in advance. The phone will be available for a special price of JD 250 (280 Euros, 354 Dollars, 1282 Dhs) at launch, but, according to the young lady who talked to me, the price might go up after the initial introductory phase. Hmm?

The phone will hit the store “by the end of the month”.

Also, the phone will be only available in red variant, although the lady had the blue one. That’s a bummer actually.

Today I tested the phone again. I first had my hands on of the 5800 at the Nokia Dead Sea last month. Today I did some more typing testing. The onscreen keyboard experience is just not good. After some getting used to it, I got better. Sadly, they did not have a wifi connection in the store, so I couldn’t test the browser again.

By the way, the Nokia XpressMusic 5800 will only support receiving Arabic sms’s at launch. But I was told that people can bring in their phones into the store after a while to be upgraded with Arabic writing support.

So, JD 250 for a full screen touch device that is actually beats the iPhone hardware wise (by by NO MEANS user-experience or application-wise). It’s still a pretty amazing deal.

The launch of the 5800 in Jordan will coincide with the launch of the iPhone (more about that in another post). The iPhone will only be available by Orange, as you all probably already know. It will be interesting to watch the buzz war.

For those of us looking for a more “serious” phone from Nokia, the wait is still on. But not for too long. Nokia has announced it’s N97 super phone..

With 32 GB of onboard storage, a full QWERTY slide out keyboard, a 5MP camera and an improved web browser, this could be really the phone for me (although the iPhone is getting more attractive with every cool application I see on it).

One of the most interesting thing for me is the new home screen and interface design look of the N97, which is inspired by the visual language of OVI, Nokia’s web services portal.

Oh what a torture!

The 5800 is out in February so I’ve heard. I was watching a couple of videos online and the texting especially looks amazing. I’ve never been a huge fan of touchscreen for the complications around texting but the on board QWERTY keyboard looks to of solved my problems.

It’s 255(JD’s) not 250(Jd’s). And it will be relased at 20-31 dec. Thats what they said.

The Nokia 5800 has arrived yesterday to Lebanon and was delivered to all the clients who pre ordered it. The price that the unit was sold for is 399$ more then 500 Units were sold and another shipment will arrive in the next 10 days of also around 500 units. The queue line was long and the Meatel store (Nokia dealer in Lebanon) was buzzing with people coming from all over Lebanon to take their precious and amazing gadget.

The first feeling when i opened the box was pure sensation. The box is well packed and full of many cool gadgets aside of the phone and the battery and the memory card the hard case phone holder is superb. The box has also a AV audio cable, USB cable and extra stylus a mini CD (software) and mnay other stuff.

    enjoy it…
