The power of SketchUp has been unleashed for the masses. After the acquisition of SketchUp by Google, it was announced today that a FREE version, dubbed Google SketchUp, is available for download (for Windows, Mac version coming soon). The commercial version of SketchUp is now called SketchUp Pro and still priced at $495.
The free version does have some limitations, most notably in the field of file export and animation. Nonetheless this is simply great. If you have ever used a 3D design tool, there is a good chance you will fall in love with SketchUp. Having Google support this innovative software is amazing.
SketchUp is now integrated with Google Earth. People will be able to import the aerial pictures of their houses into SketchUp, then create a 3D model and re-export it into Google Earth.
A 3D object ‘bazar’ has also been started where people will soon be able to find a lot of ready to use modeled objects.
Great stuff, I tell you.
