I always tell friends that my destiny is to photograph Arab cities from fast moving cars between business meetings. I was in Doha recently and did a bit of that. I was lucky that I stayed in a hotel in downtown Doha, which definitely does not reflect the glitzy image people have in their heads about Qatar, so I saw more of the city than the malls and the five star hotels.

From the tenth floor of my hotel, I had an amazing view of the city and the Corniche. I could see the contrast of the ‘old’ Doha and the new skyscrapers in the horizon.

See my Doha album on ikbis.

will, we still waiting for full review about Qatar and Doha.. i’m desiring to know your first experience when you landed on Doha Airport, and the first views outside the airport.

the first shot is Amazing, its really reflects the Expats’ life in Qatar, under these satellite dishes and “Zeeenko” roofs there are hundred of families and kids and REAL humans lives there!! a roof rent in this area may reach $1000.

imagine the rains of winter and the sauna summer that come on this poor houses 365 days of the year..

    this totally unfair!

ok, what push those people to live under this very poor conditions? 2 things:

    – the very high rates of monthly apartment’s rent. so they can find a lower rate in these areas. (other areas jumps over $2K per month)
    – the people lives a temporary life! why? because in any minute they could receive a paper that says: Your visa has cancelled, and you must to leave the country in 48 hours!

I’m glad you seemed to have enjoyed your trip. You’re probably talking about the Musheireb-Sofitell area, it has a downtown feel but it definitely does not reflect the West side of Doha. Welcome Back!

Great photos! When you say you stayed in “downtown” Doha, where exactly do you mean? I will be visiting early next year and had it in mind to stay near the Souk area, probably around Musheireb Street. Is this anywhere near to where you were staying? What was the name of the hotel you stayed in?

Sorry for so many questions but have not had any good answers from sites like Trip Advisor etc!
