Given the power of rumors in this country and the tendency of people to believe the strangest things (like the get-rich-quick schemes offered by devious “stock market” and “forex” charlatans), I wouldn’t be surprised to hear the following iPhone rumors in Jordan:

“The iPhone will only be given to sons of current and previous government ministers”
“In Jordan, the iPhone will come in a gold-plated edition”
“An Iraqi businessman has already bought all the iPhones in Jordan and has used him to tile his villa in Abdoun”

Well.. here are some rumors I actually DID hear:

“The iPhone will be sold for JD 600 in Jordan”
“The iPhone will be sold for JD 200 in Jordan but with a 2 year plan”
“The iPhone will be launched by Orange in the coming week or so”
“Orange will be launching its 3G network in the coming weeks, although no one was awarded a 3G license yet!”

Today I read in AppleInsider that Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone in 29 more countries including Jordan.

Does anyone out there have some insider info to be shared ;-)

The contract part is right, I said the news (which were correct before), my sources are stable.

It will be given with a 2 years contract and an option of installing the arabising as well.

Well, is it gonna be the 1st or 2nd generation of the iphone here in jordan?
through reading blogs since the release of iphone 2nd generation, most people still prefer the 1st addition, as it is more stable.

now, how about going for google andriod phone? i saw some videos of it, and it looks promising, with an SDK already available, people will be creating lotsa of apps, and for sure it wont be like the apple store, with a kill switch to uninstall unapproved iphone software

Jordan has 3 operators, and no 3g yet, shame! i wont be going for an iphone yet, i bought one for a friend of mine, and every once in a while, i play around with it, but still, im not that interested in it

Who said the 1st generation iPhone is more stable?
They both have the same software, and with the new 2.1 software, its amazingly fast now.

I use an unlocked 1st generation iPhone here in Jordan, and my friend bought an iPhone 3G of which I unlocked – both are stable and running great.

I heard it will be out in October. Even if 3G gets released this year, it will be extremely expensive. Data plans in the U.S include unlimited 3G connection. Here, they will probably charge per KB which gets expensive. EDGE JUST started to get cheap with the Internet bundles offered by Zain.

Google Maps might not be very useful since Jordan has no maps yet – although I know a company working on it already !

As Nayef said, the software part is irrelevant…version 2.0 inroduced many new bugs and was indeed slow, unresponsive and not very stable, but starting from version 2.1 things are back to normal…This applies to both the first and second generation iPhones.
    @Nayef,
“my friend bought an iPhone 3G of which I unlocked ”
You mean “Jailbroke and Activated” but not unlock…Otherwise I’d REALLY like to hear how you did it :)

Apple started selling unlocked iPhones starting today in Hong Kong, which might be an indication to how things will shape up.

Hi there. The guy at the Orange counter in Smart Buy said they’re due to release the iPhone in Jordan “within the next two weeks.” No details of price, though.
