The gadget universe is ultra excited about the just-annonced Samsung F700, revealed at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. Apple haters are falling over themselves as they see the F700 as the “answer” to Apple’s iPhone.
Indeed the F700 look impressive. Touch screen. Slide out qwerty keyboard. Media player. Hi speed net access through HSDPA (but it seems no Wifi). Full HTML browsing. And a 5 Megapixel camera. As Borat would say: Wawaweewa!
This is all great..
But so far, we have not seen any video of interface of this “iPhone Killer”. It’s being shown behind a glass box at the 3GSM Congress and you can see glossy pictures of the phone across the net.
Also no pricing/date of availability has been announced.
It might be an iPhone killer, but let’s see the interface experience of this phone before we judge. That’s were Apple makes its magic.
And it seems no one does marketing and branding better than Apple. A company like Samsung comes out with a cool phone like this one and then calls it the F700! Soon there will be the F750, the F760i and the F820w (they already have the F500 etc etc etc).
They announce the phone and you can’t even find it on their website. They release some cool pics but don’t show the interface in action.
And they don’t have a Steve Jobs to do a dazzling presentation.
So let’s wait and see..
In the meantime, enjoy looking at this Chinese iPhone “clone” that is rumored to be close to production: the Meizu!
What a crazy mobile world.

Hi Ahmad,
I recently moved to Beirut, but I’m mad we didn’t get to work together this past year. Like you said “our paths will eventually cross.”
On the iPhone, I think Samsung is one of the few companies that gets design and offers a mass market appeal. In spite of this, Apple gets the “soft” side of design better than anyone else as is evident from their packaging, tactile response, audible sounds, feel, etc… So I think they will come out on top when all is said and done.
My only concern is their over-emphasis on consumertronics… I’m still waiting for my Leopard, iWork ‘07, iLife ‘07, new unexpected software, and their new server offerings (they might just have the Exchange killer for SMBs).

I read your post why are flat screens more expensive in Jordan, here’s a link that would interest you, it explains why products are more expensive in different countries
