Skype is launching Skype Video for Macs today (look for version 2.0 on this download page). Skype Video for Windows has been available since last December.
It was just a week or so ago that I was able, for the first time, to try video calling via Apple’s iChat. I don’t have a FireWire iSight camera but I was able to use an old Phillips TuoCam which I bought 5 years ago (and almost never used!). A US$ 10 utility called iChatUSBCam makes that possible.
It was a weird experience. I was talking to a friend in Berlin who is a regular video iChater.
But almost no one I know is on iChat! Everyone is on Skype. Can’t wait to try out the video calls on it.
