Amman downtown demonstration
Originally uploaded by humeid.
The demonstration today was organized by Jordan’s opposition parties and the professional associations (many of which are currently controlled by the opposition parties). Earlier today I was tempted to offer an analysis of what I saw and heared today. I will, for now, refrain from that. I think we’re all too depressed and affected by the extent and inhumanity of this crime to analyze.
All in all it was good to see everyone condemning what happened and stressing the sanctity of Jordan’s security.
One other thing briefly: the sound system on the demonstration truck broke down when Saleh Al Armouti (president of the Jordan Lawyer’s Association) wanted to deliver a speech. Meanwhile a group of people where shouting anti terror and prov government slogans. Armouti go so irritated and considered what was happening a deliberate ‘interference’ in his speech and started shouting at the group and said that he holds the governemnt and the security forces responsible for this interference.
The demonstration then ended but a group of people continued on to Jabal Ammman towards the bombed hotels.
