I just drove across the bridge on my home this evening and snapped a couple photos, which I posted here: http://osati.wordpress.com/2006/12/14/official-abdoun-bridge-open-to-motorists/

I look forward to seeing your video report…

What’s underneath the bridge, I mean what is it bridging?

Thomas, its bridging Abdoun Valley (Wadi Abdoun) which separates Jabal Amman from Abdoun.

I heard a story from an older, wiser man that told me a river once passed through that same valley, and it used to be called Wadi El 7ayaya (Valley of snakes) because it was supposedly infested with snakes. Could be a myth, but still an interesting story…

Nice photo…and thanks for the reminder that this really is a big deal for Amman. I’ve spent too much time complaining and not enough celebrating this feat.

(Ahmad, off topic, but I had a glimpse of both our family’s future today: three strapping teenage boys came to eat. And eat. And eat. Forget savng for college, I’ll need to be saving for groceries)

I don’t think there is anything to be happy for! It’s an ugly bridge, and we had no need to such a bridge in Abdoun!
By the way,i’m a structural engineer in Italy,so maybe i’m not that “cool” in design, but i asked an opinion to 4 friends, architects here, no one said it’s nice, the average was “not that much”!
At least as structural design it’s surely a great achievment for Jordan!

abed …. please have a tour on the entire circle of the connection …
Middle East intersection – Al Nasha – Istiklal Street – Queen Noor St – 4th circle – Abdoun bridge + tunnel – Blue Fig bridge – Bader Al-Jadeeda – and back to Middle East intersection…
the whole tour took around 20-25 minutes on a jammed friday night.
From Dakhelie to Wehdat it took me exactly 7 minutes! and only 3 minutes to Abdoun Mall. ……

it about those numbers rather than the … “COOL” design u aint liking i think!

Well i don’t think it’s ugly! and it is a big deal for Jordan this is a one big step in modern architecture. and every one here liked it. By here i mean Serbia. By the way, Serbian architects and civil engineers built allmost 20% of the gulf mega structures.
    i’m proud of this project.

    Hello from Switzerland
It is very nice to know, that a bridge is named “Abdoun”. For me it will be a reason to visit Amman once and to get to know the place of origin of Abdoun (Egypt / Faqus Family).
I allow myself to take this icture as background for my computer!
All the best, hoping for peace in the area
