Welcome to episode 3 of MixUp Arabia (I just found out I say episode 2 in the cast itself:)). This is a show on media, technology, design and culture from today’s Arab world, in the confusing context of globalization, development, conflict and change.

How are media and the internet affecting the Arab world’s relationship with the United States?

Is the internet bringing us closer together? Or is everyone looking into his or her own mirror?

Is there a deeper understanding of the Arab world in America?

What can Americans and Arabs do to achieve, not just better mutual understanding, but better policies?

Earlier today I had a Skype conversation about these and other question, Hady Amr in Washington.

Hady is a leading Arab-American political and economic consultant. He was born in Beirut, Lebanon and also lived in Greece, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the USA prior to earning his Masters in Economic and Political Development from Princeton University.

Hady has formerly served as an economist at the World Bank, as a Clinton Appointee at the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies, as Al Gore’s National Director for Ethnic Outreach and on the Kerry Campaign. He is also the author of “The Need to Communicate: How to Improve U.S. Public Diplomacy with the Islamic World” published by the Brookings Institution, as well as the “State of the Arab Child” published by UNICEF.

    Enjoyed your latest show. It is great to hear things about the arab world from real people instead of sound bytes from politicians. We need more contact between everyday people in the Mideast and the United States.
